3.0" Decodon Fossil Leaf with Metasequoia
This fossil plate contains a 3.0" whole Decodon leaf as well as a small branch with needles from a Metasequoia. These fossils are from the Middle Eocene.
The Tranquille Shale was formed by an ancient lake where the fossils were preserved in a fine layer of silt that built up over the years as diatoms in the lake bloomed and died.
These fossils where found in early-middle Eocene (56 million to 47.8 million years ago) deposits of northern Washington state, United States.
