Small Mosasaur Tooth

Meaning, “Lizard of the Meuse River”, the Mosasaur was one of the biggest marine reptiles that lived in the Crustaceous period (101-66 Mya). It could weigh over 28 000 lbs and measure up to 59 ft. long. Closely related to alligators, these reptiles were powerful predatory swimmers. They had hinged lower jaws allowing them to consume prey whole. Although they breathed air, they were not able to move on land due to their flippers. Despite being an apex predator, its favorite meal was believed to be ammonites.
